As a conservative legislator, and as a practicing family doctor, I am strongly opposed to any government takeover of our health care system.  I believe that medical decisions are best made between patients and doctors, without interference from government bureaucracy.
Throughout my legislative career, including four sessions serving on the Senate Health and Human Services Committee, I have worked to make health care more accessible and affordable.  I believe the best way to do that is to engage the free market and empower consumers.  At the same time, we must hold insurance companies accountable for abuses to the system.
I am honored to have the support of patient advocacy groups such as the Texas Medical Association, the Texas Academy of Family Physicians, the
Texas Hospital Association and many others.
Texas is the nation's leader in job creation during these difficult times.  As a member of the Senate Finance Committee, I'm proud to have helped craft fiscally sound budgets that protect taxpayers while funding essential services.  Because of our conservative approach, Texas has fared much better than most during the economic downturn.

Should I be re-elected, I am committed to taking a radical look at some of our state's biggest areas of spending to see if even more money can be saved.  By mainting a commitment to smaller, limited government, I believe Texas will continue to be the kind of state where investors and job creators will want to do business.
