Names Texas Economy, State Budget as Priorities
GREENVILLE – Bob Deuell, MD, has filed for reelection to the Texas Senate. Elected in 2002, Deuell, a family physician and conservative Republican, wants to continue his service to Texas and, most importantly, to the people who live in Senate District Two. Deuell was overwhelmingly reelected in 2006 and 2010.
“Times are tough, and I want to use my experience and expertise to solve problems and prepare Texas for the future,” said Deuell. “Much work needs to be done with our budget, and especially in the areas of education, health, transportation, water and energy.”
Deuell explained that while the Texas economy was doing well relative to the rest of the U.S., many are still hurting. “We have a great business climate in Texas, and I’m proud to be a part of creating that,” Deuell said. “We must continue that work so that the Texas economy can still improve and thrive.”
Elections will be held for all Texas Senate seats in 2012 due to the population and redistricting changes brought on by the new decade. Senate District Two is comprised of all of Hunt, Fannin, Delta, Hopkins, Rains, Van Zandt, Kaufman and Rockwall Counties along with some of the eastern portions of Dallas and Dallas County, including South Garland, Mesquite, Sunnyvale and Seagoville.
Senator Deuell serves as Chairman of the Senate Nominations Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee, and he holds seats on the Senate Finance Committee and Senate Natural Resources Committee. Deuell is the author of the landmark Jessica’s Law, which is the toughest law in the nation dealing with child predators. This past legislatives session’s accomplishments included new guidelines authored by Deuell to help schools protect young athletes against concussions while playing a sport. He has also passed innovative legislation to assist families with disabled children, as well as disabled adults, in obtaining health insurance coverage.
Bob and his wife Marilyn have been married for 42 years and have three grown children. The Deuells are members of Aldersgate Church in Greenville, where Bob plays the drums as part of the Sunday morning worship team.
